Madden 20 is finally here and one of the things giving people the most trouble so far is the change to the defensive hot route system. Many people are getting stuck trying to make adjustments, playing the run by accident, or just simply bouncing around player to player like old Maddens.

Another of the challenges being presented to the defense on Madden 20 is a shortened window for adjustments. The offense no longer breaks the huddle and walks to the line of scrimmage, they just magically populate at the line of scrimmage after selecting a play. This gives the defense less time than they have been afforded on past versions of the game to begin with. Between the shortened time, and the new hot route system for Madden 20, it can be tough to play any defense but the one you selected at the play call screen this early on in the year.

So let’s pile one more thing onto the defenses’ plate, and show them a quick snap scheme as well. The scheme we are about to go over is extremely simple, requires very few adjustments, and is just as much a threat to pass as it is run. This scheme is going to be from the Oakland Raiders playbook and is from the Singleback Doubles Off Close formation.

Singleback Doubles Off Close

Singleback Doubles Off Close is a three wide receiver formation that has one side of the formation spread out like true doubles, while the other side is close like a compressed set. This formation has some great run plays available to us, as well as a few really solid passing concepts. It could be one of the most effective simplistic formations on Madden 20. Here are the plays and setups we will be using, please make sure to watch the video to gain a full understanding of the scheme;
